No, it is not safe to drink alcohol while taking MARINOL Capsules. The drug can dangerously interact with alcohol and with other drugs that have an effect on the central nervous system (such as Valium® (diazepam), Librium® (chlordiazepoxide), Xanax® (alprazolam), Seconal® (secobarbital), Nembutal® (pentobarbital), or phenobarbital). You should also NOT smoke marijuana while taking MARINOL Capsules. Doing so can cause an overdose.1

For appetite stimulation in the treatment of AIDS-related anorexia with weight loss:1

MARINOL Capsules should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor, and indicated on the prescription label. You will most likely start therapy by taking one white capsule (2.5 mg) of MARINOL Capsules twice daily, before lunch and supper. Your doctor may adjust your dosage if needed to maximize its effect or decrease any side effects.

For nausea and vomiting that are associated with cancer chemotheraphy in patients who have not responded to standard treatments for nausea and vomiting:1

MARINOL Capsules should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will prescribe a dose for you based on the surface area of your body. This dose may be given before and after chemotherapy for a total of 4 to 6 doses per day. Your doctor may adjust your MARINOL Capsules dosage if needed to maximize its effects or to decrease any side effects.

The best place to store MARINOL Capsules is in a cool place (46-59°F; 8-15°C) or in the refrigerator. Don’t let the capsules freeze. Heat or moisture may cause your MARINOL Capsules to break down or stick together, so keep your medicine away from heat and direct light as well as potentially damp places such as the bathroom or near the kitchen sink.1
